What is a spine road?

New Ash Green in Kent, UK

Tobiwan has this to say: “New Ash Green is a large village built in the 60s and 70s.  It’s arranged into neighbourhoods and each neighbourhood has a spine road. Our neighbourhood has way more cars than spaces, so you often get some fun examples of bad parking. This is the most ridiculous one, and it happens fairly frequently. This is the junction at the end of the spine road. As you can see, there are not one but two cars jutting out into roads.”

Tobiwan also apologizes for the fingers in the frame. He was operating on the sly.

Match made in… something

Carpinteria, CA

Kjaere says, “How cute, they even match! I don’t think these cars could have gotten any closer together. I really wonder who was there first. The funny thing is that this was in a big parking lot, early-ish in the morning and there were plenty of empty spaces, but I guess these two just needed to kiss!”

Gotta love a good romance.

Video footage

Bad Parking’s first video! Check out this video of a really awful and loooong attempt at parallel parking.

It’s four minutes of this guy trying to squeeze his car into a too-small space. I love how he tries the same approach over and over before finally going for a slightly different angle. At one point it almost looks like he’s going to make it, then he gives up and starts all over again. In the end, it was a waste of time and the poor fella drives off in search of a nice, wide pull-in spot.

Ho hum

Little Rock, AR

From Ashley: “Just because you drive the largest vehicle ever made doesn’t give you the excuse to both park badly AND take up part of a handicap spot.”

General absurdity

Grand Rapids, MI

Samil provided a whole photojournalistic piece for us on this parking debacle. It all took place in one section of a parking lot! Samil adds, “It was just a bad day for parking today.  The three red cars were parked next to each other, it wasn’t as if it were a domino effect either. All three were getting tickets by campus police as I was walking by. The fourth grey car was about 30 yards away from the other three cars.”

Guidelines

California

Tim took this through his car window, so he thought he better clarify for us a little. “The vertical lines are where I guesstimate that the front and back of the truck SHOULD BE. Guess it was too much trouble to back out and pull down one more space where there wasn’t a planter box in the way!”

Try, try again

California

Tim watched this guy attempt to park multiple times before giving up and leaving it like this. “I watched him pull in very poorly, then back out and come in again, then do it a third time. Then he got out and went shopping. I was really surprised to see just what a crappy job of parking he did based on all the ‘fixing’ he did! You can also see that the cars on each side are crowding to the very edges of their spaces, but that’s no excuse!”

Well, maybe it’s kind of an excuse. But still funny.

More dominoes

Excondido, CA

Tim says things are bad “from the left starting with the silver mini-van, all the way to the burgundy car one from the right. The gold pick up bucks the trend – but I don’t know if he parked before or after the others.”

Always love the domino effect.

In a rush

Carlsbad, CA

From Tim: “I guess folks are just too rushed these days to back out and straighten the car up – and be within the lines. In this case it could cost a few hundred bucks if a cop drives by. I’d say it’s worth the 33 seconds it takes to fix the parking job – but that’s just me.”

Innocent victim

Grand Rapids, MI

Poor Samil owns the car parked on the right. I hope he didn’t have to crawl in through the passenger side!
